Recently one of our technicians, Oscar, had the challenge to visit a home as the resident complained about air quality. On the left is the actual and untouched photo, there is more to air quality than what comes out of the vents. All things need to be considered.
Your health begins (and ends) with common sense.
Roach and Filth
The home was infested by roaches and filth… take a look at the photo again and tell me what you see. To be clear, the dish washer door is loaded with roach flesh, eggs, poop, and general disgust.
The smell in the home slapped air quality in the face. Not making any judgment calls, Oscar explained to the resident pest control needed to be called before we can help her out.
We returned this morning to find improvement. Working from top to bottom, attic insulation was in need of replacement. Our team extracted the infested insulation, cleaned her attic, and blew in new attic insulation. After adding disinfectant, the attic and air quality was on the right track.
For this home, our next step is to perform a full-scale duct cleaning which is now scheduled. As part of the non-intrusive cleaning we will fumigate the vents, add two ultra-violet lights, and instruct the resident how best to keep air quality at its best.
Holistic Air Quality
Holistic is a fancy word for taking everything in account. When it comes to air quality, recognize many things should be considered… here are just a few:
- Change filters once a month
- Keep kitchen and appliances clean
- Consider ultra-violet lights for added confidence
- Put an ounce of white vinegar into your air handler monthly
- Have a preventive ac service every six months by a trusted HVAC company
Common sense is the number one rule (and number two rule).
By following the above suggestions, you will be fine.
